Bots are accounts that perform automated or semi-automated tasks. A bot flag hides its edits from RecentChanges, among other things. While this group can be tested with, please remove it from a human account when done testing, and restore it to a legitimate bot account when done testing.
Bots are able to make edits very rapidly and can disrupt Test Wiki if they are incorrectly designed or operated. For these reasons please do only use bots, if you know what you are doing and keep an eye on the bot's contributions.
This is one of the six default MediaWiki user groups, see mw:Help:User rights and groups.
It should not be granted permanently by non-test administrators. To request the
bot flag permanently, please submit a bot approval request at Test Wiki:Bot approval requests, articulating a clear and specific purpose for the request, linking to your bot's source code (if publicly available), and indicating whether it will be run ad hoc or on a regular, fixed schedule and the estimated frequency of edits. If you need to grant yourself the
bot flag temporarily, you may do so, but you must state a clear reason for granting. The community advises granting the bot flag temporarily for no more than 24 hours.
