From what I've seen, everything is fine, and the CheckUser right isn't really needed either, the only use for the Steward permission is that it can revoke bureaucrat permissions from a user. - I think we already have both kinds of oversight on this wiki, from google I saw https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/oversight which is revision deletion you should already be able to do the admin kind of revision deletion, there is also the suppress kind, which was done to a few entries a long time ago by MacFan4000, but for that you need to be in the suppress user group and only the stewards can assign that. Spam abuse filters

- Agree, and prompt autoblocks will also prevent the spambots from creating new accounts on the same IP for 24 hours reducing the hit rate and making it easier to find any false positives. We can always tweak the filters that result in immediate blocks if problems occur. It may be advisable to limit blocks only to registered accounts for now since they are so far responsible for nearly all edits that trip the filter. Help, abuse filter blocked me
Hi, this is administrator User:PorkchopGMX editing under a VPN, a different browser, and a new account. I was editing one of my subpages, planning to delete it and use my test account to see what it would look like with the “researcher” user group, when the abuse filter thought I was spamming and blocked me indefinitely with autoblock. The only thing I can do right now (besides having to use a VPN) is to email somebody. I don’t know who I should email, so I’m doing this instead. If anybody is skeptical that this is really me, I do have access to my account and can email somebody if they need proof. PorkchopGMX’s throwaway account that will only be used once (talk) 16:15, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

"High chance of spam" filters and false positives
The spam filters have recently falsely blocked two users (User:PorkchopGMX and User:Dmehus) as spammers that were not. As a temporary solution User:MacFan4000 has set them to just disallow again, but they clearly need to block provided we can remove false positives.
I suggest requiring 0 edits for block. Generally spambots trip this filter on their first edit, so anyone who has made any successful edits is likely not a spambot. Any other ideas? Naleksuh (talk) 23:41, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

The same is true of CheckUser, certainly, though. It's probably a wash, really, with you believing Oversight is the greater concern and me believing CheckUser is the greater concern. Community proposal: To establish as official policy, subject to amendment at Test Wiki:Community portal, No open proxies policy. Such policy shall prohibit open proxies, somewhat broadly construed, VPNs, and web hosts from being used for anonymous editing or account creation. On discovery, a Steward shall soft block with account creation disabled and talk page access revoked said IP range(s) for a period of not less than three (3) and not more than twenty four (24) months. Logged in editors may use them, as is the case on Miraheze, as at least the user will have been likely required to identify their personal IP to create an account. Where, upon discovery, an account was created by a VPN/open proxy, Steward discretion applies as to whether to block, or require a confirmation edit from a Wikimedia or Miraheze wiki. Steward discretion in terms of the length of the block/rangeblock applies, within the defined parameters, but the community recomments at least six (6) months for obvious cases. Where open proxies/VPNs are being used on this wiki by anonymous users, the open proxies/VPNs may be blocked by any sysop, subject to the same discretion as outlined above.

- Support While I'm very new here, I've heard this wiki has had some unfortunate instances of trolling and vandalism. In my experience, allowing account creations from open proxies/VPNs as well as anonymous editing for them usually causes trouble. There has been a NOPP in place at Miraheze since the beginning of 2017 and having a clear policy on the matter could be helpful and allow for routine soft blocks of VPNs and open proxies. Proposal: Bureaucrat rights are not given to every user 24 h after admin rights request, rather trusted users. With 'crat rights there are not really any extra testing possibilities but currently it isn't possible to protect pages so that only experienced/trusted users ('crats), who aren't stewards can edit them because everybody can get bureaucrat within 24-48 hours. Since checkuser-limited is also available to sysops, nearly all test features are also possible for admins. Also currently there is only one (1) I only counted stewards, not interface admins user who is active (made edits/log enries in the last 30 days) who has a right that is not given out to everybody.

Restriction of Administrator rights
Hello everyone I want to explain something important to the community, it's about verification and Users who should or shouldn't have the right of admin, as for testing we already know this is a Test wiki where you can Test administrator actions, I would like to ask should we recklessly give Admin and bureaucrat right to anyone without confirming if they're Known users on Wikipedia?, I think we should ask them to confirm their account on Meta to know whether they get to benefit from using MediaWiki Tools or just for Fun. what do you think?

Right now, bureaucrats do not have the (interwiki) user right (which allows you to edit Special:Interwiki) but they can grant (and remove) themselves and others an extra user right group (Interwiki admin) to get around this restriction. For context, the reason why it's restricted to Stewards on Miraheze is because of the potential to have malicious sites bypass the Content Security Policy. So, it's not a completely innocuous right. In this respect, theblockanddeleteuser rights are much more innocuous than theinterwikiuser right; importing can have potential issues, so I'd probably say this would be on par with that, or maybe slightly above even. Above it would be interface administrator. My preference would be to delete a lot of the unneeded user groups that are below thesysopgroup, and just have onetestgroupand maybeautopatrolledandconfirmed. The rest could probably be turfed. - Procedurally, this proposal, though good-faith, is invalid as Stewards are the only community-elected, non-test administrators on Test Wiki. As such, the community has no capacity to restrict the
steward, or evensysadmin, user group from having full access to the MediaWiki permissions toolkit. It's more than a bit bureaucratic (pardon the unintended pun) for a Steward to have to add a test user group (bureaucrat) to perform a non-test action related to the Interwiki extension. Additionally, what if a user does not wantbureaucratpermissions but does want to test the Interwiki extension? I have severe problems with requiring them to request a user group they do not want. Hi everyone,
Though Test Wiki is hosted on Fosshost (formerly hosted on MacFan4000's cloud-based VPS) and not the Miraheze wiki farm, there's a fair bit of user crossover between Test Wiki and Miraheze users. Indeed, the two stewards and system administrators on Test Wiki are either current or former stewards and/or system administrators on Miraheze. Ostensibly due to real life priorities, not to mention his myriad online activities, Test Wiki has been served, essentially, by only one steward and system administrator in MacFan4000. At the same time, similar to there being a fair bit of crossover between Miraheze and Test Wiki users, there's a fair bit of crossover between Miraheze and Test Wiki LTAs. So, similar to Void, as a Miraheze Steward, I'm seeking election as a Test Wiki Steward, so I can assist with those processes. Obviouusly, my Miraheze commitments, which includes my separate involvement with the MirahezeBots project where MacFan4000 is also a senior developer and bot operator, preclude me from being hugely active on Test Wiki, but this is also by design as I prefer to let Test Wiki bureaucrats gain confidence and experience in actioning permissions requests and tending to obvious vandalism. And, as a very active user in the Test Wiki IRC channel, as well as Miraheze IRC channels, I'm usually just a quick {{ping}} away.

Specifically, the one-hour rights readdition clause only applies to Stewards and System Administrators, ostensibly chiefly because those roles require a successful community vote at Test Wiki:Community portal. As to whether someone must wait the standard hold period before readding
bureaucrat, I'd say your understanding is also likely correct, but it's also common sense. - Oppose Thank you, Trayfel, for the properly formatted confirmation edit of your Trayfel account on Wikimedia (though you should still confirm your account on Miraheze as well (especially if it's the same username as on here). Nonetheless, I thank Trayfel for putting their name forward for Stewardship; unfortunately and regrettably, I must oppose this (and not a weak oppose, per the articulated reason). For one thing, your account is barely two months old. Account age, on its own, is not necessarily a prerequisite, but taken together with your confirmed Wikimedia global account having only ~300 global edits in the past twelve months since it's been created, almost all of which are either (a) userspace sandbox edits and/or (b) counter-vandalism remediation on English Wikipedia, I am unable to ascertain your overall technical ability. Additionally, and perhaps more crucially, you have zero (0) patrol log entries on Test Wiki, only three (3) user rights log entries, one of which was an incorrect interpretation of the inactivity policy and correctly overturned by PorkchopGMX. Granted, I will say that Test Wiki:Inactivity policy is, admittedly, a bit unclear, but nevertheless, the preceding in a manner the user thought they were certain they were correct when they were not is at least a bit problematic. Other than a few test blocks, there's really no other edits and log actions to assess the user's understanding of, and ability to apply, our policies, so I am unable to get any real clear sense of that. Finally, the user identified wanting to assist MacFan4000 and I with user renames and checking for sockpuppetry. In terms of the former, there have been only fifteen (15) renames in the preceding six (6) calendar years and, seeing as I have only had to add my
checkuserhat in the more than one month since I've been a Steward and since I am also active daily here, in terms of daily review of the community portal, permission requests, and recent changes, I don't feel there's a sufficient rationale here either. It'd potentially be, if I had a better sense of the user's technical and policy-based abilities. Finally, I noted that you've only very recently joined our IRC channel, which I'd also like to have seen you be more active as well. - The outcome here is that, yes, Seiyena's behaviour was indeed inappropriate, and the racially insensitive and homophobic comments also inappropriate, Kazrok4545's block was also inappropriate for a few reasons. Firstly, as it was quite clear at Test Wiki:Request permissions that this was a Steward-managed user conduct case, the block was inappropriate. Secondly, administrators here are, fundamentally, non-test administrators. Blocking open proxies, deleting spam, or reverting vandalism is fine, but serious user conduct issues must be left to Stewards, unless they've explicitly delegated certain aspects (i.e., my saying that
bureaucratcould be revoked if the conditions were breached, for example). Finally, and philosophically, part of developing good administrator skills beyond technical capability is developing the diplomatic skills and engaging with users to think of other, creative and, crucially, long-term solutions that are at least somewhat amenable to all. I had meant to ask Arcversin to import the abuse filter from Public Test Wiki, but my other responsibilities precluded that until now, so I do take that responsibility for not having done that sooner. Nevertheless, this is the solution I believe is the best. If, after a month or so (from now), it's clear Seiyena needs another time away from Test Wiki, I will make that call. Nevertheless, Seiyena, to be clear, you can curse, though I encourage you not to. What you cannot do is make racist, racially insensitive, xenophobic, or homophobic comments. Thus, Kazrok4545's rights revocation is endorsed by this Steward. You may re-apply for administrator after a minimum of 5-7 days, if a bureaucrat is satisfied with your good edits and log actions. You may then re-apply for bureaucrat on or after May 1st, again under the same terms. I have added several minor user groups, with a particular emphasis on researcher, which should allow you review your revision deleted contributions and log actions, to help you understand what you cannot do here and make good edits. Filter #52
@Dmehus: Could you or another Steward please add & page_id == 702 to abuse filter 52, as the second to last line? This would help prevent false positives (which result in no-warning indef blocks) by excluding Test Wiki:Request permissions from said filter. Also, is there any way for non-Stewards to get edit access to those filters? — Arcversin (talk) 01:29, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
- Arcversin, sure. My other plan here is to create a non-test abuse filter helpers user group, to be granted by Stewards, that would allow technically capable abuse filter editors to be granted this permission and be able to edit restricted abuse filters. Users may request the permission from a Steward, but should provide some evidence of technical capability in this area. It would be subject to the inactivity policy, and could be revoked if an abuse filter helper either (a) repeatedly made unconstructive changes to restricted abuse filters or (b) otherwise demonstrated to Stewards they either (i) not technically competent or (ii) not trusted.
