Warm welcome[edit source]

Welcome to Test Wiki! We appreciate having you here, maintaining our wiki! Justarandomamerican (talk) 00:23, 10 January 2021 (UTC):Reply[reply]

Justarandomamerican Thank you. I probably won't be too active here, but will try and help by fixing up the interface messages, especially the user group ones, and also assist in maintaining the interwiki table. Dmehus (talk) 00:47, 10 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Just a reminder about the copyright policy here, no warning[edit source]

Hello. This wiki has no default copyright system, and if you want to license your contributions under a specific license, please do so on a user subpage, such as this. Justarandomamerican (talk) 00:40, 10 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ah, that's good to know. I'm personally not too fussed about it. CC-BY or CC-BY-SA, pick your version, works for me, though I guess I should probably specify it. I'll try and get around to it, heh. Dmehus (talk) 00:50, 10 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello:[edit source]

How are you doing on this lovely day? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 11:59, 27 May 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Fine, thanks. Dmehus (talk) 19:40, 2 June 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:User steward[edit source]

Hello. Why should it be necessary to protect Template:User steward at steward level, but not other templates, e.g. Template:User bureaucrat which is only protected at bureaucrat level? –CrazyFisherman (talk) 09:57, 29 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

CrazyFisherman, the reason I protected it at steward level is because I was going to use it for cross-wiki scary transclusion here, but since then, I've had to import the template locally on Miraheze due to Content Security Policy issues (i.e., "testwiki.wiki" is not exempted in the Miraheze CSP), I suppose it could be lower to bureaucrat. Dmehus (talk) 01:03, 31 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Regarding User:Seiyena[edit source]

Hello. Seiyena requested admin right at TW:RFP and granted by User:CrazyFisherman.

I knew you endorsed permission revocation, so I checked some pages/logs, and found 2 of your comments.

  1. "You may re-apply for administrator after a minimum of 5-7 days"(Test_Wiki:Community_portal#Seiyena,Special:Diff/21214)
  2. "Administrator may be reinstated by any bureaucrat in 5-7 days from today"(Special:Redirect/logid/30522)

I don't know what to do, so just so you know.--Q8j (talk) 07:27, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I requested the right because all I could do as a non-admin was move pages back and forth, and I wanted to continue testing admin privileges. And I promise not to ask for bureaucrat until after May 1. Sei (My changes here | Drop me a line) 11:45, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you for bringing this up Q8j. I will be revoking said permissions until the minimum wait has been met. If Dmehus disagrees with my action then I take full responsibility. @Piccadilly: Please do not make any further RFP's until you have met the minimum time set. Trayfel • ( Edits | Talk ) 22:12, 14 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I just felt that I could do more testing as an admin than just a regular user, and since in real life I have a bit of time on my hands right now, I wanted to use some of it to test here. And I have been responsible with the admin powers. Sei (My changes here | Drop me a line) 23:44, 14 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I restored your confirmed, researcher, autopatrolled, autochecked permissions, because it had already approved by Dmehus when you are granted admin right. As a side, seems you want to restore Talk:Main Page/en-gb. I don't know why you want it restored(looks totally nonsense to me), but with resercher right, though you can't restore it, you can view deleted contents. Hope that helps.--Q8j (talk) 03:54, 15 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you. I only want to restore the page because I had deleted it as a test, and feel like that test should be reverted. Also, Dmehus, can I please have my admin privileges back please? I was being responsible with them here. Sei (My changes here | Drop me a line) 07:08, 15 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

About deleting versus rollbacking[edit source]

Hi Dmehus. I just wanted to note that I deleted the IP's contributions because they were new pages. I didn't see any way to roll them back, and I didn't think I should just let the pages stay so that's why I deleted. Sei (My changes here | Drop me a line) 23:43, 18 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Seiyena, that's great. :) Dmehus (talk) 07:39, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Special:AbuseFilter/88[edit source]

Hi Doug, can I make some complaints regarding filter #88's newest hits here? While the filter is still good at its job, I think something else needs to be done. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh (talk) 04:11, 23 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

If the filter is doing its job, why would something else need to be done? And what would that something else be anyways? Sei (My changes here | Drop me a line) 05:20, 23 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh, apologies for the delayed response, but if you have some additional improvements to the filter to make, I'm all ears and likely have no objections. If there's something else you'd like to suggest, please feel free. Dmehus (talk) 07:38, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I proposed some changes here https://testwiki.wiki/wiki/Test_Wiki:Community_portal#Any_thoughts_on_this_proposed_change_to_filter_88? While it sounds harsh, I think it could add more reason for me to not trigger the filter. Seiyena (My Contribs | Talk to me) 07:42, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit source]

The Defender of the Wiki Barnstar
Thank you so much for solving abuse puppet problem of this LTA, 想舞花, this LTA caused a lot of confusion not only on Wikipedia, but also on Test Wiki and some other platforms I know of. I can't express my gratitude in any way, thank you Pavlov2~alternative (talk) 15:19, 30 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi[edit source]

You had an impostor account made out of you, pretending to be you, giving me and Q8j (talk · contribs) fake warnings. Because of that, I have  hidden the impersonation account from view. Just thought I'd drop by and send you this message and let you know that it has been dealt with. --DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 14:41, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Request for permalink[edit source]

Hello. I'd like a permalink to the proposal mentioned in this edit, out of curiosity. Justarandomamerican (talk) 23:55, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Justarandomamerican, thank you for your note. Do you mean you want me to add this permalink to my recent close at the Test Wiki:Community portal? Dmehus (talk) 00:33, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Nothing of the sort. I looked through Archive 07 of the community portal, and although there was a proposal to amend TestWiki:Bots, it wasn't adopted, and I was simply wondering which proposal the edit I external linked to referenced. Justarandomamerican (talk) 00:39, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Justarandomamerican, oh yeah, that proposal wasn't adopted. In my close, when I referenced a proposal, what I meant was that I planned to re-propose a similar proposal, with some modifications, of course, for discussion, so until we have the policy supports in place, I think the most recent proposal was a bit of the cart before the horse. Hope that makes sense. Dmehus (talk) 03:18, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Justarandomamerican,  Fixed. Dmehus (talk) 03:22, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Maybe you should become a sysadmin here[edit source]

Hello. I think you have very good contributions. I think you could ask MacFan4000 about being a system administrator. Thanks, Tailsultimatefan3891 (talk) (contribs) (rights) (block) 21:15, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello from Seiyena[edit source]

First, I tried to email staff at testwiki.wiki with my appeal several weeks ago, but the email was returned as undeliverable. I would really like to have that account unblocked and have one last chance to test here, and I will not break any rules or evade any filters. Can my Seiyena account please be unblocked? Melty Molten (talk) 22:41, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Rename request[edit source]

Hello Dmehus,

Can you rename me to User:X. Thank you! Administrator (talk) 19:58, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

X, thanks for the message. Apologies for the delay in responding and handling, but just noting this has been  done by MacFan4000. :) Dmehus (talk) 01:02, 21 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Mass deletion for housekeeping[edit source]

You seem to be flooding recent changes's view of the deletion log by doing this. I politely request that you use the bot rights for making trivial changes such as mass deleting pages for housekeeping reasons, as manually changing signatures there would be a plain waste of time, making it relatively non-controversial and okay to use the bot rights for. Thanks, Justarandomamerican (talk) 00:52, 21 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Justarandomamerican, oops, sorry, my bad. I'm trying to get back to regular activity here, and completely forgot about that. Thanks for the reminder! :) Dmehus (talk) 01:00, 21 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That’s good to hear. I hope you will maintain your activity here. X (talk) 01:03, 21 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Senior-bureaucrat group[edit source]

If I remember correctly, on a RFS awhile back you said that you might create a senior-bureaucrat group to assist stewards. I was wondering if you were going to create the role, as I believe it would be a useful asset for me and other qualified users. X (talk) 19:28, 21 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

BlackWidowMovie0[edit source]

Please read this log. BlackWidowMovie0‘s block was NOT set by Naleksuh. It was set by MacFan4000.—Q8j (talk) 04:22, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Note: I have reblocked the user to protect the site while awaiting your response. X (talk) 11:39, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Q8j, thanks for the message. I realized that afterward, and did post a note for MacFan4000 (and Drummingman) in the IRC channel, to see if either of them had any objections and, if so, I would indeed reblock. I will check the IRC channel and see if there have been comments. Dmehus (talk) 15:56, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
A note in this case: I've decided to grant talk page access for appeal purposes as it has been 2 years. There is a very real probability of change, and TPA being disabled does not appear to be necessary to prevent further disruption. Justarandomamerican (talk) 17:26, 10 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
While I don’t oppose the idea of resorting TPA, I don’t want us to get into a pattern of “Unblock all of the LTAs just because they haven’t edited in awhile.” We have unblocked Piccidally, Talisumatefan, and now this. X (talk) 17:47, 10 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
We're not unblocking all of the LTAs. If one doesn't give a satisfactory explanation? They remain blocked. CIR users, particularly where 2 years have passed with no apparent sockpuppetry, probably aren't LTAs locally, and TPAD isn't necessary to prevent disruption. Justarandomamerican (talk) 18:14, 10 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I’m aware we aren’t unblocking all of the LTAs, just pointing out that this is the third LTA we’ve altered their block in the past 3 months. X (talk) 19:04, 10 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I wouldn't necessarily consider myself an LTA, if I'm being honest. Just a person who has made some very bad decisions on wikis and who strives to do better. Piccadilly (My Contribs | Talk to me) 19:16, 10 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yep. If a user is attempting to do better and does not sock, they are at most a CIR user, not an LTA, IMO. Justarandomamerican (talk) 19:17, 10 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you[edit source]

Hi Dmehus, I just wanted to thank you for all your helpful work in getting me unblocked here. I will behave myself from now on and I hope to see you on Miraheze in a few months when hopefully I will return. Seiyena (My Contribs | Talk to me) 15:59, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, Seiyena, you're welcome. I have to procedurally reblock you and remove your permissions until this closed, though. When you're unblocked, you do not need to re-request permissions. Any bureaucrat can just re-add your rights. Dmehus (talk) 16:03, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Reverting unblock[edit source]

Hello Dmehus! I saw you reblocked Seiyena after I had unblocked them. I was wondering if you could provide some more comprehensive rationale for this decision, given that 3 or more bureaucrats supported an unblock if I remember correctly. Why must the community wait for the actions they wish to occur? I understand that I am not a steward, but this was supposed to be a community appeal, which the community supports, and I don't think it completely falls under the purview of the stewards to decide, but instead the community.

Thanks,

X (talk) 16:22, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

X the provision you referred to refers to how to handle administrator disputes (for example, if an administrator disagrees with a temporary reblock of Seiyena, then if two bureaucrats concur that shouldn't have been a block, there is no issue for them to revert the unblock). Similarly, I believe I also said if Seiyena receives three forms of progressive discipline and needs to be reblocked indefinitely, there would be no issues with a bureaucrat temporarily blocking them indefinitely until reblocked by a steward. Hope that clarifies! :) Dmehus (talk) 17:13, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I am somewhat confused by your response. I was referring to this action specifically. X (talk) 17:17, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What are you confused by? That is indeed what I thought you were referring to. Seiyena will indeed be unblocked, per the community consensus. The issue was you unblocked Seiyena, which you did under a good-faith misunderstanding of what I had said, so I am attempting to clarify your confusion. :)
Separately, can you pop into IRC, please, and DM me? There is something I need to ask you about privately. Dmehus (talk) 17:22, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okay, now I understand. I have messaged you on IRC. Username = Globe. X (talk) 17:28, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

User:X/Senior-bureaucrat group[edit source]

Per our conversation on IRC, I have created User:X/Senior-bureaucrat group. Please edit and comment as necessary. X (talk) 18:22, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

About my rename request[edit source]

Hi again. I haven't gotten much feedback on my rename request to Piccadilly, but X did say that they'd rather I not be renamed while I still have active restrictions. So I guess I'll wait until I know for sure that those restrictions are lifted, and then I'd like to be renamed. Thanks! Seiyena (My Contribs | Talk to me) 14:39, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Interface admin[edit source]

I was wondering if you could take a look at the thread I started on Drummingmans talk. They requested another steward take a look as they were unfamiliar with IA abilities. X (talk) 00:56, 19 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your unstrike[edit source]

Please see: this where they simply forgot an end strike. X (talk) 15:40, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

And please revert your unstrike. X (talk) 15:42, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I see you have undone it. I won't revert it, but I would still prefer Zippybonzo to have done that, so as to also clarify their reason for supporting, consider their current argument in opposition, and consider subsequent comments since their last visit. I think your reversion was reasonable, but editorially conflicted given it's your permission request. I don't think that reflects good judgment on your part. Dmehus (talk) 16:39, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I’m not sure what you mean. I didn’t revert your strike, @Justarandomamerican did. Please be more careful before accusing me of things. Thank you. X (talk) 16:42, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I also don't like your warning Zippybonzo for edit warring in a situation where you were also conflicted. That's also a judgment and conflict issue, particularly both of your reversions could be considered edit warring. That's the sort of thing a Steward should review and provide neutral, uninvolved warnings or advisories to both users. :) Dmehus (talk) 16:41, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
A steward did review it. @Drummingman agreed with me that the strike wasn’t needed. X (talk) 16:44, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

We need to talk[edit source]

When you get a chance, let’s chat on Discord. I think that would help us clear things up, based on my talk with Drummingman. X (talk) 22:52, 2 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, I'll reach out to you Discord, if you prefer, before tomorrow morning (my time). Dmehus (talk) 23:55, 2 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Are you available now? X (talk) 20:19, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Bureaucrat rights in preventing disruption clarification[edit source]

Heya. Surely some of the bureaucrats on this wiki can be trusted to place blocks up to and including indefinitely, and to issue firm warnings. Does this new clarification require they all be elected Stewards to be empowered to do so, or is it merely [rfc:2119 recommended] that bureaucrats not place long-term blocks or issue firm warnings? Justarandomamerican (talk) 00:15, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I was also wondering the same thing, and I thank @Justarandomamerican for voicing those concerns. X (talk) 00:25, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Justarandomamerican, thank you for the question. I would say it isn't so much as a new guideline, but rather one which has not been used consistently on Test Wiki, which governs itself very similarly to Public Test Wiki. I would say it would be fine to interpret it as a [rfc:2119 recommendation]. Basically, the idea is to use common sense. Obvious spambots or vandalism only accounts would be fine to block indefinitely, but established competency is required users, the recommended best practice would be to guide, follow it with a warning, then a short block (or block(s)) of between a few days to a few weeks. If a longer term or indefinite block is needed, it should be referred to Stewards. I thought it would be helpful to add the clarification since bureaucrats may have different judgment levels of what is appropriate. Dmehus (talk) 20:17, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Civility Barnstar
You have been consistently civil, no matter the situation, even if it is extremely contentious. Here's your barnstar, you earned it. Justarandomamerican (talk) 01:51, 4 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
