Interface administrator is a user group that permits the editing of all CSS, JSON, JavaScript and interface pages.

From 21 July 2020, for security reasons, only stewards and system administrators can grant and withdraw these rights (see Special:ListGroupRights). Previously this group could also be granted from bureaucrats.

If you really must update CSS/JS pages, you may request the right at RFP, but you will be subject to a security review by stewards.

Interface administrators rights are only granted if it has been demonstrated that the user is able to work with CSS and/or JavaScript. This is also possible if it can be verified that the user has interface administrator permissions in non-test projects.

Note: This must not be used as merely a 'badge', but must be used regularly. Stewards will conduct periodic reviews of non-Steward users contributions to assess both their level of usage and the usage of the permission itself to determine whether it's needed currently.

This is one of the six default MediaWiki user groups, see Help:User rights and groups on mediawiki.org.
