The abuse filter (or edit filter) is a tool that allows trusted users to enable controls on some types of unconstructive or disruptive changes. The current filters can be found on Special:AbuseFilter. Abuse filters can cause huge disruption if they are incorrectly configured or if even a small mistake happens. With the AbuseFilter extension being a very powerful tool and the potential disruption it could cause to Test Wiki, the following modifications would be put into effect if the policy was passed with success:

1. Removal of abuse filter permissions from administrators:

The following permissions are removed from the administrators' group:

  • abusefilter-revert
  • abusefilter-view-private
  • abusefilter-log-private
  • abusefilter-modify

Establishment of New User Groups:

a) Establishment of the "abusefilter-helper" group:

Limited access to abuse filter information is granted to members of the abusefilter-helper group. They specifically have the following authorizations:

  • abusefilter-view-private
  • abusefilter-log-private

Any user who is deemed trustworthy by a steward can request to be included to the "abusefilter-helper" group.

b) Establishment of the "abusefilter " group:

The "abusefilter" group will be granted to users who require extensive access to abuse filter functionalities. Members of this group will have the power to perform the following actions:

1. Create or modify abuse filters (abusefilter-modify)

2. Create or modify what external domains are blocked from being linked (abusefilter-modify-blocked-external-domains)

3. Modify abuse filters with restricted actions (abusefilter-modify-restricted)

4. Revert all changes by the given abuse filter (abusefilter-revert)

Membership in the "AbuseFilter" group will only be granted upon request following a vote on the community portal.

c) Establishment of the "abusefilter-sysop":

This group would contain a sole right i.e, abusefilter-modify-restricted is a highly powerful right that could potentially cause a huge disruption. This right would only be assigned to user upon request and following a vote on the community portal

Allocation and Revocation of the rights

The groups "abusefilter-helper" , "abusefilter" and "abusefilter-sysop" will be automatically available to stewards by default. Only stewards have the authority to assign membership to these groups.

If a user misuses the rights granted within these groups, the Steward responsible for oversight shall promptly remove the rights and, if deemed appropriate, may enact further disciplinary measures, including user blocking.

Furthermore, in adherence to inactivity policy, if a user does not utilize the permissions associated with the "abusefilter-helper" , "abusefilter" or "abusefilter-sysop" groups for a maximum period of three months, their access may be subject to revocation.
