Suppression should be used as a tool of first resort for the following cases:

  • Potentially libelous information when the case is clear and there is no reason to keep the revision (such as alleging someone has committed a felony), or a Steward has advised suppression
  • Inappropriate personal information
    • Home addresses
    • Telephone numbers
    • National identification numbers
    • IP addresses of registered users
    • Email addresses, real names, and other personal identifying information not listed above posted without clear understanding of the consequences or without any consent from the person involved (the latter also warrants an oversight block)
  • Obvious copyright infringement

Suppression may be used for serious vandalism, serious disruption, or gravely insulting material at your discretion, but you should first consider whether revision deletion would be an adequate alternative.
